The Essure Procedure

Gynecology & Laparoscopic Surgeons, PC welcomes our younger patients.

Many women, adolescents and teenagers often question when it is appropriate to start annual pelvic exams. The current recommendation for annual Pap smear screening by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is as follows:
"All women who are or who have been sexually active or who have reached age 18 should undergo an annual Pap test and pelvic examination."

The visit will allow an opportunity for the adolescent or teenager and her family member to ask the doctor questions. There will also be an opportunity for the adolescent or teenager to talk with the doctor without the family member present. The pelvic examination and Pap test are described in detail to the adolescent or teenager prior to the exam to decrease anxiety and uncertainties. Every effort is made to assure that the "first Pap smear" is "not as bad as she thought it would be."
