Colposcopy

A colposcope is a magnifier. Colposcopy is performed to obtain a very close look at the cervix, vagina, or skin around the opening to the vagina. If there are any abnormal-appearing areas, a biopsy, which is usually relatively painless, is taken. The results of this biopsy will determine if further treatment is necessary.
