LEEP (Loop Electrode Excision Procedure)

In a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), a tiny wire acts as a scalpel to cut away the area of the cervix that contains the abnormal cells.

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, takes less than 15 minutes, and results in minimal discomfort. A local anesthetic is used to minimize discomfort. There may be minimal cramping and spotting following the procedure.
