The Essure Procedure

Menopause is the permanent cessation of menses due to loss of ovarian follicular function.

Menopause occurs naturally at different ages in women, the average age is 51 years. Menopause may also be "induced" through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. The decline in ovarian hormones may cause undesirable symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. The decrease in hormones also increases a woman’s risk for osteoporosis.

Perimenopause is the 1-2 years prior to menopause and the first year after. Perimenopause usually starts around the age of 47 years. During this time, women may experience irregular bleeding and symptoms of declining estrogen (hot flashes, vaginal dryness).

There are many treatment options available for the symptoms of menopause as well as for the prevention of osteoporosis. These may be discussed with your physician.
